Ever since I have been living on Vancouver Island, I have been bugging my husband to take me to the interior. Although I have never been there before, I repeatedly told him that it’s my favourite place in Canada. I just knew from the vineyards, the fruit stands, the mountains and the hot weather, that it was my dream as a wedding photographer to shoot there. I was determined that although I just started my business here on the island, some lovely couple out there would want to give me the excuse to finally cross off something on my bucket list.
And this is where Brittany and Mike come in.
Last year around this time, I met Britt and Mike and they asked if I would capture their wedding at the Heather Mountain Lodge in Golden, BC. Without hesitation, I accepted their proposition. Not only was I over the moon about photographing a wedding at a breathtakingly beautiful venue, I was even more excited to get to work with such an awesome, caring, head-over-heels in love couple.
Fast forward about 9 months and there I was in Golden, surrounded by endless mountains and so many wonderful people. It was one of the hottest days of the year… but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that close family and friends travelled from far away to witness the marriage of one happy couple. And boy was it worth it…
If the gorgeous ceremony backdrop wasn’t overwhelming enough, Brittany’s song to Mike was. I knew Brittany had been involved in acting, but I had no clue she had a voice that would make every goose bump in my body surface.
I left that wedding feeling as if Britt and Mike were my new friends… friends that I knew an awful lot about. Their vows and speeches were so personalized that it really gave everyone a chance to know the whole story of these two lovers.
On my 10 hour journey back to the island, I had time to reflect on this remarkable day. It was a nice change from my usual post wedding craziness. This time, instead of being back at the office, uploading and editing photos, I was able to have a peaceful drive. It gave me time to think about how incredibly lucky I am to have a job that requires me to be with couples on their most important day of their lives. A day that they have invested so much time and money in and hope to remember for the rest of their lives. Thank you Brittany, Mike, and all of my brides and grooms that have given me this opportunity.
I hope you enjoy the photos from their wedding.. I sure enjoyed capturing them.
