One of the perks of my job is that I never know what the day will bring. There are some things that I’ve learned to expect on a wedding day…. A bride in a white gown, a traditional western ceremony with the exchanging of vows, paper signings and a kiss to seal the deal. I know the reception will include a meal, followed by speeches, first dances and a bouquet toss. But that said, every single wedding I shoot is so unbelievably unique, it’s mind boggling.
When it was time to capture Tayyaba and Ali’s Pakistani wedding, I started to get a little nervous. The butterflies fluttering in my stomach reminded me how I’d felt during my very first wedding I photographed. Everything seemed so new to me again.. But this time I was surrounded by vibrant coloured gowns, I experienced new traditions, smelled foods and listened to music and speech that were so foreign to my senses. And although I stepped out of my comfort zone that night, I couldn’t have been more comfortable. Tayyaba, Ali and the rest of their wonderfully caring family were continuously going out of their way making sure I was taken care of. I don’t know how many guests came up to me those two nights, making sure I took a break and ate dinner….. I am so thankful for this, especially since the dinner was the best dinner I have ever eaten in my entire life. So good that I am afraid I will never find food as tasty as this again. Now that’s a first world problem right there my friends…
Tayyaba, you girl were such a trooper. You looked absolutely stunning and still managed to smile for two days even with pounds and pounds of jewellery on. And Ali, my friend, I am so impressed with how manly you made your dress look.
I cannot thank these two enough for this unforgettable experience. I think all weddings should be this much fun!
